Transit worker killed by Metrorail train

A Metrorail train struck and killed a county transit employee Monday morning in Earlington Heights, shutting down service for hours, Miami-Dade police said.

Detectives were still trying to figure out what led George Andrews, 47, who was working on or near the track, to be struck by the train at the station, 2100 NW 41st St. He died at the scene.

“Our sentiments go out to the family and everyone there working at the time,” a transit spokeswoman told reporters.

After the accident, transit workers used buses to ferry passengers to and from the station. The medical examiner’s office will determine the exact cause of death.
